The adoption of advanced silane-modified polymers has triggered a new generation of adhesives, with unique features and high-value benefits that were previously not possible. A niche example of these new possibilities are the crystal clear adhesives such as illbruck SP030.

Various ‘clear’ elastomeric sealants and adhesives have been available for many years. The vast majority of these were in fact only translucent. It has really been the development of hybrid technology that has given birth to true ‘crystal clear’ formulations available today.

Illbruck SP030 is equally suited to life either as a high-performance sealant or a flexible adhesive. With excellent adhesion to a full range of materials, and up to 20% movement accommodation, SP030 provides a perfect solution in applications where an invisible bond line is required.

While the possible uses for this product may initially seem niche or specialist, there are in fact many day-to-day areas of use. Contemporary retail areas and commercial buildings are increasingly using clear, seamless glass in their interiors. Promotional point-of-sale and exhibition stand designers frequently require an ‘invisible’ construction, as do display cabinet manufacturers, transparent signage and a vast range of manufacturing applications.

Illbruck SP030 provides excellent initial tack, or ‘grab’, followed by a rapid build-up of strength. Once cured, the product can be left to give a crystal clear finish or – if required – can be overpainted.

As with all the products featured in Tremco illbruck’s Dream Team, illbruck SP030 is solvent-free, low hazard and odourless. It has excellent resistance to UV, weathering and typical chemical exposure.

The weather has been miserable, with a touch of the depressing thrown in. However we are not down.

We think we've got a great year ahead. Our tie up with Sika, one of the world's largest sealant and adhesive manufacturers is one of the reasons we are so optimistic.

We have for some time now been offering a basic range of Sika products: Sika Boom S (a high quality expanding foam), Sikaflex 11FC (FC = Fixing & Construction Sealant and Adhesive) and Sikaflex 221 (A high quality Sealant for use in marine environments and general construction).

High Temperature Silicones

We seem to be getting lots of sales and enquires for High Temperature Silicones recently. The only thing i can put it down to is the cold weather.

People getting their wood burners going etc....

We sell a couple of products in the high temperature silicone dept:

1) Silirub HT-N (Best seller!) Up to 285C - Black

2) Ottoseal S17 (Neutral Cure) Up to 285C - Red Brown

3) Ottoseal S25 (Acetoxy Cure) Up to 300C - Red Brown

If the temperature resistance need is higher, silicone is not the answer! If exposed to temperatures outside of it's parameters it will melt!.

For a higher service temperature a cement (Fire Cement) based product is required. They are very different in their make up and can not do similar jobs. For example: Silicones remain flexible after curing, whereas cement based products cure to very hard finish. Thus making them not suitable for joints where there is some movement.

I know, i know. It's been a while!

Things at UK towers have been manic and are only now starting to be a bit sensible. our range of products are, understandably not as high on peoples list at this time of year as they might be. For some unknown reason they are more interested in another sort of list. One involving a chubby chap with red suit on.

Sika Boom S (750ml) Expanding Foam from Sika is now on the website, along with Sikaflex 291 The marine sealant and adhesive.

Sika Boom S is a premium grade PU Expanding Foam, perfect for use in a wide variety of construction and DIY applications. These include:

• Filling of voids
• Filling gaps around window frames and sills
• Insulating pipes
• Can be use to seal between walls and ceilings

It also has sound deadening properties and when fully cured can be sanded, sawn, sanded and is 99.5% waterproof!
