High Temperature Silicone and Sealants. Silirub HT-N

High temperature silicone sealants are one of our best selling products,

we sell thousands a month.

Normal, high quality silicone withstands temperatures up to approx 180C. Silirub 2 from Soudal Sealants is temperature resistant up to 200C.

To go any higher than this requires a special formulation of ingredients. Our biggest seller by a mile is Soudal's Silirub HT-N. The "Silirub" part of the name is made up of SILicone and RUBber, silicone rubber hence Silirub. HT is obviously High Temperature and the N stands for Neutral Cure.

Silirub HT-N High temperature Silicone Sealant, withstands temperatures up to 285C and for short periods will withstand temperatures up to 300C. This makes it perfect, for example for fixing the glass back on your oven door. to replace a gasket on your exhaust or transmition system.

Silirub HT-N comes in a 310ml tube and it's colour is black. we have been asked tens of times if they offer a high temperature sealant in clear. The answer i'm afraid is no, and this is because of some of the ingredients included in it.

Silirub HT-N is a very high performing, high quality product.

Sealants & Adhesives Industry News

We at UKsealants have been getting all the usual messages and letters from the sealant, adhesive and expanding foam manufacturers telling us to expect price rises in the new year!

What joy.

Otto-Chemie have been the only ones to put pen to paper and confirm that because of the exchange rate between the weekening Pound (£) and the Euro (looks as though i need a new computer, this one hasn't got a Euro symbol!) Their prices are going to rise by approx 5% from Jan the 1st.

Soudal Sealants say they are monitering the exchange rate as are Everbuild and Tremco Illbruck.

Changes for Tremco Illbruck Sealants & Adhesives

In early 2010 The Sealant, Adhesive and Expanding Foam

manufacturer is having a major re brand.

At present the Tremco Illbruck branding for their expanding foam's is Webbflex. At present Tremco Illbruck sell their products all over Europe under the brand "Illbruck" expanding foams.

The idea of the re-brand is to standardise the whole of Europe under one powerful brand. This makes logistic sense as they will not have to have 2 lines of production, with 2 sets of technical literature etc...

"Illbruck's" new range of Expanding Foam's will be called the following:

• PU10 EIFS Foam
• Illbruck Elastic Foam
• Illbruck Flex
• Illbruck Maxx

Tremco Maxx Expanding Foam

Following on from our introduction about Expanding Foam, we want to talk about a great new product from Tremco Illbruck called Tremco Maxx.

Tremco Maxx Expanding Foam is breakthrough in PU Foam technology!

This is what Illbruck say about it:

Tremco Illbruck continues to develop innovative new sealants and adhesives for the construction industry, underlining it's leading market position. This has been demonstrated again with the launch of Tremco Maxx Expanding Foam.

This 1-Part PU Foam is ideal for use in window and door installation and for sealing and insulating inner sealing areas and walls.

Tremco Maxx Expanding Foam, is very easy to use and apply, typically gives double the number of meters of foam compared to a conventional 500ml canister, this is due to the combination of a special formulation, innovative nozzle design and ergonomically formed cap! Having tested this product in lab conditions it has been proved that you get more meters of coverage from a 500ml tin of Tremco Maxx than you do with a conventional 750ml tin of hand held expanding foam.

This is what we say about it:

It's brilliant! We at UKsealants have sold thousand's of tins recently and have heard nothing but positives back about it. From the way it can be used the right way up (this may not sound much but having to invert the can to use all the time can be a real pain) to the thinner application nozzle which makes it much easier to be accurate with the foam.

In our opinion this is the best and most effective way to deliver Expanding Foam.

Sikaflex 11FC

Is a one part polyurethene sealing compound, which remains permanently elastic after curing.

What can Sikaflex 11FC be used for? It has a multitude of uses in a very wide range of applications. ranging from sealing in ductwork and ventilation joints to vertical and horizontal joint and crack sealing. This versatile product has great sealing and bonding properties to most bhuilding materials, has a fast cure rate with high durability and weathering properties. Basically it's an all round fantastic product.

Metal bonding Adhesive

Morning.

Just had a very interesting conversation with a customer that i thought I'd share with you.

Ian asked if we had a product that could be used for bonding metal to metal, suitable for the car industry.

We recommended a product called Bondloc Plastic Weld. As we said to Ian, don't let the name fool you. This is a 2 part Methacrylate adhesive, perfect for bonding metal to metal as well as hundreds of other substrates. This product is currently being used in the automotive industry as an adhesive.


It comes in a handy syringe but for the larger user is also available in a 400ml side by side tube. Used with a 1 to 1 mixer nozzle for an exact mix of product.

First off, we are going to talk about Expanding Foam, it's uses, and it's specifications.

The Dictionary definition of Expanding Foam is as follows:

A Solid or spongy cellular material produced by the reaction of a polyester (such as glycerin) with a disocynate (Such as toluene disocynate) while carbon dioxide is liberated by the reaction of carboxyl with the isocynate; used for the thermal insulation, soundproofing and padding.

Expanding Foam has many names, some of which include: Builders Foam, PU Foam, Squirty Foam, Polyurethane Foam and many others.

The main use of Expanding Foam is Gap Filling!

For many industries Expanding Foam is a real problem solver. The main industry and, in our experience the biggest user of Expanding Foam is the window industry. In the installation of windows and doors PU Foam is used for sealing the surround of the window or door into the surrounding substrate, usually the wall. The benefits of using Expanding Foam is that it cures or "goes off" quickly, it cures hard and after curing can be cut, painted and sanded.

Fire Resistance.

Expanding Foam comes in 3 levels of fire resistance. B3, B2 and B1.

B3 is the lowest level of fire resistance, conforming to (DIN 4102 Part 2)

B2 is the second level of fire resistance, conforming to (DIN 4102 Part 2)

B1 is the highest level of fire resistance, conforming to (BS 476: Part 20)

The fire resistance is dependent on joint configurations and testing procedures.

The Expanding Foam we sell at UKsealants is manufactured by Tremco Illbruck, part of one of the world's largest sealant and foam manufacturers.

We sell the B3 and the B1 versions of their Expanding Foams. the reason we have not chosen to sell a B2 version is that we can offer the B1 Grade at such a sensible price it negates the inclusion of a B2 rated product.
